Before I get into what the Dallas Cowboys need with the ninth pick in the draft, allow me to recap the first eight selections. First overall was Da'Quan Bowers. Nick Fairley went second, third was A.J. Green. At four, I had the Bengals draft Cameron Newton, fifth was Von Miller. The Browns drafted Marcell Dareus, Patrick Peterson went seventh to the 49ers, and Blaine Gabbert was just selected by the Tennessee Titans.
9) With the ninth overall draft pick the Dallas Cowboys could go in a few directions here. This is a team that I believe has enough talent on their roster to make the playoffs this upcoming season. There's not much a team can do when their starting quarter back goes down with a broken collarbone and the team didn't rely on the running game from the get go. The Cowboys need offensive tackle, especially along the right side. That need won't be filled with this pick just due to the lack of talent in this draft class. Safety is another big issue the Cowboys need to solve going forward. Rahim Moore, out of UCLA is the only projected safety to be drafted in the first round, and it's at the back end of round one. Dallas will definitely go on the defensive side of the ball with this pick. A d-lineman is not a bad option, but I really like the talented corner out of Nebraska. Prince Amukamara will be who the Cowboys select here. Terrence Newman is 32 years old and Mike Jenkins had one of those seasons he'd like to forget.
10) The Washington Redskins own the tenth overall pick after finishing six and ten under Mike Shanahan in his first year in D.C. The Redskins are in trouble, quarter back Donavon McNabb is certainly all but on his way out along with defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. Neither one of these guys worked out in Washington, and it looks as if this team is going into rebuilding mode. They need to address their quarter back situation, but with Newton and Gabbert off the board, the 'Skins must look elsewhere. Both Kiper and McShay have Washington drafting a quarter back and although I absolutely concur with the experts, I just don't see three QB's within the top ten in this class. So what will the Redskins do? Obviously, if McNabb isn't traded by now, then I see some sort of deal happening during the draft. Running back Clinton Portis is rumored to be cut in the upcoming days, which fantasy experts now need to consider Ryan Torain as this years Arian Foster, of the Houston Texans. There are just so many routes for this team if this is the situation they are put in. With countless amounts of needs for the Redskins, I see this team drafting an offensive player here. Wide Receiver Julio Jones, from Alabama is my selection for the Washington Redskins. I love was Jones brings game in and game out as a Wide-out. With an impressive combine, I feel more and more teams will start to realize the gap between him and AJ Green is not as big as people think.
11) Houston Texans: After the news of wide receiver Julio Jones being drafted, the Texans decision of who to draft was just made easier. I firmly believe that if Jones was on the board here, he'd be the pick. As nice as that sounds, let's remember that the Texans had the worst pass defense in the NFL. The team that was 31st in pass defense was the Washington Redskins and they passed up on a corner back. The Texans won't because their defense was down right awful. Yes, they were without Brian Cushing for the first four weeks of the season and Mario Williams didn't play the last three games, but there's no need to draft offense. The team ranked fourth in passing yards a game and seventh in rushing. As long as the coaching staff believes that Arian Foster is the real deal there aren't many question marks offensively that can be solved with this pick. Corner back, Jimmy Smith, out of Colorado is extremely logical here. At six foot two, he not only posses top speed but also has fantastic press coverage skills. His strength is key in a division with Reggie Wayne, Jimmy Smith could be the lock down corner this team needs to clinch the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
12) Minnesota Vikings: What a difference a year makes. After being as close as one play away from the Super Bowl, this team found themselves finishing 2010 with only six wins and last in the division. Sorry Viking fans, but looking at everyone else in this division it looks as if being last in the NFC North is something you may want to get accustomed too. Adrian Peterson, is still a beast and doing everything he can to get this team back to contending, but defenses know that he is the Vikings only weapon so they are loading the box. This team needs to do something with Tavaris Jackson. I know he only started two games, but I like what I saw out of rookie quarter back Joe Webb. He played in Minnesota's final four games and although he didn't have a passing touchdown this kid show flashes of Mike Vick. With a full off-season working out his throwing mechanics, he might have a bright future. Clearly, if the Vikings are looking to win now then he nor anyone else listed at quarter back on the roster is the answer. Minnesota finished the season as a top ten defense, but yet that is where experts see them going with this pick. The Vikings has talented receivers in Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin, and even Bernard Berrian. There are not many people that are sold on quarter back Ryan Mallett, but I certainly am. Just because this guy's foot work is extremely slow and is known to force some throws uncharacteristically, he is still six foot seven, strong arm, and been involved in a pro style offense. Now as much as I believe he makes sense here, that simply won't happen. Both Kiper and McShay have defensive end Robert Quinn, out of North Carolina being selected here. Trying to think if you liked the way Quinn played at Chapel Hill, then your out of luck. He was suspended for the whole season due to accepting benefits from agents. Don't let anything fool you, as this man can create a sense of destruction. Listed as the second best defensive end in this class, he is a phenomenal player to have opposite of Pro-Bowler Jared Allen. Consider the fact that Ray Edwards will be a free agent is just another reason why the Minnesota Vikings will draft Robert Quinn.
The Detroit Lions will lead off my next blog. Where will this team look when it comes to their draft? They have needs at offensive tackle, and just about every position on defense. Surprisingly enough, the St. Louis Rams will be drafting 14th overall, following them are the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Will this be a spot where we see a running back and offensive lineman finally get drafted? Quite a few Big Ten players are options as defensive tackle Corey Liuget from Illinois, defensive end Adrian Clayborn out of Iowa and offensive tackle Gabe Carimi from Wisconsin are now labeled as the best guys available.

The Arizona Cardinals Are On The Clock
After reviewing the feedback from my first four picks in the 2011 NFL Draft, it is clear that the viewers feel as if the Buffalo Bills will draft a QB at third overall. Without question a quarter back is a huge priority for this team, but they have shown loyalty to Ryan Fitzpatrick. So why stop now? The past two years in Buffalo, Fitzpartick has more than doubled his passing yards, while throwing 14 more touchdowns this past season. (Although he did play in three more games). Looking at the Bills depth chart, their wide receivers after Johnson and the unproductive Evans are David Nelson, Donald Jones and Naaman Roosevelt. These three wide outs combined for 58 receptions this season. Buffalo Bills fan, Greg Howard sees the Bills either taking Green or someone on the defensive line. This could be true as the Bills released Marcus Stroud during the week of February 14. I'm sticking with AJ Green!
5) Arizona Cardinals: This is a team rumored to land Eagles quarter back Kevin Kolb, but while doing this mock draft I have to stick to the rosters right now. For the Cardinals to get Kolb, they would have to lose this draft pick. The Cardinals need help everywhere. This team finished dead last in the NFL in rushing yards a game and second to last in passing yards a game. So offense is a major concern to say the least. But when looking at the defense for the Cardinals they allowed a total of 434 points. This team has far too many needs right now. When it's all said and done I believe with the fifth overall pick, the Arizona Cardinals would draft Von Miller. Miller is an outside linebacker from Texas A&M and with Joey Porter unlikely returning next season Arizona needs to find a replacement. Therefore, keep this draft pick and select the best linebacker in this class to help fix that terrible defense.
6) Cleveland Browns: Ever since October second I firmly believed the Cleveland Browns would draft AJ Green. Each day leading up to the draft it is becoming more unlikely that Green ends up in Cleveland. So the Browns must look else where. This team was 29th in passing yards a game, but myself along with Browns fans would agree that rookie QB Colt McCoy showed promise along with potential. This team has a solid offensive line to protect McCoy and Peyton Hillis played his way into Clevelander's hearts. The defense might be in trouble. Defensive Coordinator (DC) Rob Ryan took his talents to Dallas, and new head coach Pat Shurmur and DC Dick Jauron might switch to the 4-3. The Browns used Ben Watson a lot more than we all thought, but he had a very successful season. He led the Browns in receiving with 763 yards, the next Brown is about 300 yards behind! The only problem is Shurmur is known to not use the tight ends in the passing game. Yet another reason Green makes sense, but with him off the board I believe the Browns go with defense here. The Browns recently released defensive tackle Ted Washington so Marcell Dareus, from Alabama is an option. Or they could snag the best player on the big board and that's Patrick Peterson. Drafting him to play along side of Joe Haden, who the Browns drafted with their first round pick a year ago would solidify their CB's for the next seven years. This would also give the Browns flexibility with their Special Teams behind Josh Cribbs. After going back and forth with this pick, I finally made up my mind. The Browns ranked 27th in stopping the run and being in a division with teams who are known for running the ball, I see the Browns selecting the dominant 300 pound Marcell Dareus. Want to argue that, watch the film from their bowl game against Michigan State.
7) San Fransisco 49ers: If the draft goes this way the 49ers are sitting there with one huge smile. This team finished six and 10 and only one game back of winning their division. Certainly quarter back is one of their top priorities, but sitting at seventh overall they will select elsewhere. Their best corner is 31 years old and Patrick Peterson is still on the board. He is the pick here. The 49ers new head coach, Jim Harbaugh is a guy that thrives on defense. Coming from Standford, I can see this team passing on a QB and hoping to find themselves in the Andrew Luck sweep stakes during the 2012 draft. Remember, this team could have been a playoff team had running back Frank Gore not gone down with an injury. If Michael Crabtree can start the season more productively than last year and this team has potential to be a threat on offense no matter whose at quarter back. So why not continue to fix up the defense that finished 24th in passing yards against.
8) Tennessee Titans: Not only did the Titans finish at six and 10 they only one won game since Halloween. The defense only allowed 339 points all season and had five players with at least 100 tackles. It's safe to say Randy Moss did not pan out in Tennessee, but Kenny Britt, Nate Washington and Justin Gage are all talented wide receivers. One problem, Kerry Collins is getting older and Vince Young won't be around to start the season. The Titans have a desire at quarter back and with Blaine Gabbert, from Missouri on the board the Titans will select him. Look, this is no shot at Gabbert, but in my early predictions with this years class he is my most overrated player. Potentially being drafted as high as number 3, is just ridiculous. Yes, he's six foot five, and with two college seasons under his belt his numbers declined from his sophomore to junior year. He threw 30 more passes for 400 yards less and his touchdowns declined by eight. I'm just not sold on this quarter back, especially as a top five to ten player.
Next on the clock, with the ninth pick is the Dallas Cowboys, at 10) Washington Redskins, 11) Houston Texans, and 12) Minnesota Vikings. Where will Nebraska corner back Prince Amukamara land? Other notable players include Robert Quinn, and Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones. Go ahead Browns' fans, let the chatter begin about passing on Patrick Peterson.

With the 1st pick in the 2011 NFL Draft...
The NFL Draft is a little over two months away, but that doesn't mean it's too early for a mock draft. After reviewing Mel Kiper and Todd Mcshay's mock draft I have come up with my very own mock. Now before I go into each team and their pick, I want to get a few things out about this years class.
It is extremely loaded on the defensive end. However, there is still some solid talent on the offensive side of the ball. A.J. Green is by far the best offensive player in this draft. He is six foot four with unbelievable skills with the ball and separating from the defense. The only question with Green is his durability. In 2009, Green was forced to miss games due to a bruised chest and spraining his AC joint in his left shoulder. On defense, as phenomenal of a season defensive tackle Nick Fairley had, I truly believe Clemson's defensive end Da'Quan Bowers is a stud and too good to pass up at number one overall. I see a lot of Julius Peppers in him. Let's get on with Bryan Ferrer's mock draft.
1) Carolina Panthers: After finishing the year at 2-14 this team needs a lot of help. Their two wins this year came against the weakest division in football; the NFC West. The Panthers edged out the 49ers in week seven and then took down the Cardinals in week 15. Rookie QB, Jimmy Clausen started 12 games and only threw three touchdown passes. The running game was dysfunctional at best, but the Panthers have three running backs that should all see playing time in 2011. Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams are their two heading monster, but second year running back Mike Goodson showed promise throughout the season. In week ten versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers he rushed for 100 yards on 23 carries. A week later he had 22 carries and 120 yards to go along with five receptions for 31 yards against the Baltimore Ravens!
As we all know though, the defensive players are too good to pass up at number one overall. Nick Fairley and Da'Quan Bowers are my two options. Fairley is a beast, no doubt about it, but Bowers has been bringing it for three years now. Fairley is more of a question mark and doesn't quite have the intangibles deserving to go number one. Bowers had a monster season this past year with 16 sacks! Fairley's Auburn Tigers beat Bowers Clemson Tigers 27-24 in the regular season, but Bowers gets the last laugh with being picked number one overall.
Only thing I would say is certain is that a "Tiger" will be the first pick: Da'Quan Bowers.
2) Denver Broncos: New head coach John Fox, went from coaching the worst team in the NFL, to the second worst team. Like in Carolina, the Denver Broncos have a young quarter back with a high potential. Tim Tebow is listed as the starter, but fantasy football fans cannot forget the type of season Kyle Orton had. The Broncos won four games last year, with one being against a playoff team in the Kansas City Chiefs. The clear cut problem with the Broncos is that they couldn't stop any team from scoring on them as each of their opponents scored in double figures. Finishing the season second to last in rushing yards allowed giving up nearly 155 yards a game. At the age of 34, Jamal Williams is their starting defensive tackle. Nick Fairley makes perfect sense here.
3) Buffalo Bills: Surprisingly the Bills did something right last season and that's defending the pass. Being in the same division as the New England Patriots, the Bills were the third best team in passing yards allowed, giving up 192 yards a game. When it comes to stopping the run, this is where the Bills failed miserably, allowing 170 yards on the ground a game. This team had three players with one hundred plus tackles including Paul Posluszny (151), Donte Whitener (140), and Akin Ayodele (106). McShay has the Bills drafting linebacker Von Miller out of Texas A&M, and although that makes sense, I feel as if the Bills take a different route. Last year this team took C.J. Spiller, when they already had two solid back in Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson. Lynch is now in Seattle, we all remember his beastly game sealing 67 yard touchdown run versus the Saints during Wildcard Weekend. The Bills are not scary on the offensive side of the ball, this team needs a quarter back but with this class and third overall I don't see that happening. Lee Evans did not have a catch the last four weeks of the regular season and right now the Bills only wide receiver threat is Steve Johnson. Please Buffalo do the right thing and draft A.J. Green.
4) Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals were arguably one of the biggest disappointing teams in the NFL this past season. Winning only four games and having a ten game losing streak during the season could be why quarter back Carson Palmer wants out. Depending how their off-season turns out this team looks to be in rebuilding mode. With Terrell Owens more than likely leaving Cincinnati and the future of Chad Johnson up in the air, wide receiver would be their main target. Julio Jones is the next WR on the big board, but no way the fourth overall pick is used on Jones. So the Bengals must look else were. Owner Mike Brown does not want to trade Palmer and although he should, I believe he won't. In my mind, the two best players available are Von Miller and LSU corner back Patrick Peterson. The Bengals have both those positions covered so I see them going with a quarter back. Palmer will stay, but he is on a short leash with the fans. At the age of 31, there were seven games last year where he threw multiple interceptions. Considering his little brother Jordan is the backup, they need to get this all worked out. Do the Bengals give away their QB, have a terrible season and hope for the Andrew Luck sweepstakes..Or draft a QB and let him develop under Carson. If Cameron Newton can continue to shine during workouts and at the combine, I like him being drafted here because the Bengals can "baby" him into their system. Cameron Newton.
Stay on the look out for the next four selections. The order includes: 5) Arizona Cardinals, 6) Cleveland Browns, 7) San Fransisco 49ers, 8) Tennessee Titans. Notable players still on the board consist of: Von Miller (OLB), Patrick Peterson (CB), Rober Quinn (DE, from UNC) and many more defensive players.
